He
is the president of the employee-owned Carcione Fresh Produce
Company, one of the most successful wholesale produce companies
in California. Carcione has had regular segments which aired
on ABC-7 in San Francisco, and had a Green Grocer Report
that aired on KCBS Radio in San Francisco.
In addition
to his wholesale success, Pete feels that it is important to
educate others about the benefits of eating fresh fruits and
vegetables. Reviving the Green Grocer role that
his father made famous, Pete created a daily Green Grocer
Report, which aired in 2002 on KCBS radio. During the
show, he informed the public about what ripe and ready produce
was available that day, and how eating produce on a regular
basis can lead to happier and healthier living. His tips included
nutritional values, historical commenting, comparison of prices,
and fun preparation ideas.
In business,
Pete combines his easy going, friendly manner with his 35 years
of experience in order to provide consumers with the best possible
produce available, as well as up-to-the minute information on
whats new, delicious, and nutritious. Carcione considers
himself to be the Peoples Grocer and makes
it his mission to deliver all available information on produce
to the public.
His company,
Carcione Fresh Produce, is located in San Francisco and wholesales
fresh, high quality produce to over 400 stores and restaurants
throughout Northern California.
Pete Carcione, The Green Grocer is a third generation
wholesale produce expert.
In 1920,
his grandfather and namesake, Pete Sr., started the family produce
business in the San Francisco area. By 1933, the business had
grown substantially and it also included Petes father,
Joe, who was known as the original Green Grocer
and had a television segment that aired in the 70s and
80s on ABC-7 and KCBS Radio in San Francisco.
Pete Carcione graduated from Santa Clara University in 1963,
where he received his B.A. in Business and subsequently entered
the Coast Guard. In 1969, Pete opened his own business, Carcione
Fresh Produce Company, building on the tradition started by
his father and grandfather.
